Knee surgery in Worthing

Don’t let knee pain knock your confidence.

At Goring Hall Hospital in Worthing, it’s never been easier to access help for your knee problems. We have consultations available within 48 hours of booking your appointment, whether you use online booking, send an online enquiry or phone our team on 01903 506699.

Your journey with us begins with a one-on-one Consultation with an Orthopaedic Surgeon, who will set about making a diagnosis, before working with other specialists from across our hospital – from Radiologists to Physiotherapists to Pain Management Consultants – to create a bespoke treatment plan based on your individual needs.

We will first look to treat your knee pain with non-invasive methods, perhaps a course of steroid injections to ease the swelling and improve mobility, or physiotherapy sessions to help you build up the muscles that surround your knee joint. If necessary, your Consultant will recommend knee surgery.

If you are advised to have surgery, your Orthopaedic Surgeon will explain what this will involve, including the type of knee surgery that you might require and what to expect during your operation. You can rest assured that you will be supported by our team of specialists throughout your treatment journey, from your initial consultation with an experienced Orthopaedic Consultant to your recovery following treatment at our hospital.

At The Goring Hall Hospital, we offer a variety of knee procedures, the most common of which are:

Knee arthroscopy starting from £5,514*

Knee arthroscopy is a keyhole operation that uses an arthroscope (a thin tube with a camera attached to the end) to diagnose and sometimes to treat problems inside your knee joint. A knee arthroscopy is often used for problems arising from accident or injury, including a torn meniscus (cartilage), a dislocated patella (kneecap), a fracture (a broken bone in your knee) or a tear in one of the ligaments in your knee.

Partial knee replacement surgery starting from £15,000*

The knee joint is made of three parts. Unicompartmental knee replacement surgery, more commonly known as partial knee replacement surgery, is an operation that involves removing and replacing the damaged part of your knee joint with an artificial component, also referred to as prosthesis.

Total knee replacement surgery starting from £16,035*

If more than one part of your knee is damaged, most commonly due to severe arthritis or a knee injury, your Orthopaedic Surgeon could recommend total knee replacement surgery. During this operation, the damaged ends of your tibia (shin bone) and femur (thigh bone) are removed and replaced with a prosthesis. In some cases, the back of your patella (kneecap) could also be replaced which is known as patellofemoral (kneecap) replacement surgery.

Knee revision surgery starting from £25,435*

After about 10 to 15 years, your artificial joint from a knee replacement operation will need to be replaced with a new prosthesis. This procedure is known as knee revision surgery. Your Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Goring Hall Hospital will also recommend a knee revision operation if your prosthesis becomes loose or dislocated (removed from its normal position).

*The prices that are shown above reflect self-pay prices where patients have paid for their treatment themselves. These prices will vary depending on your diagnosis and recommended treatment. The cost of your treatment at The Goring Hall Hospital will always be confirmed in writing after your consultation and any necessary diagnostic tests. Further terms and conditions apply.

Robotic-Assisted Knee Surgery at Goring Hall Hospital

Many knee replacements are now carried out using advanced robotic technology – and our Orthopaedic Consultants at Goring Hall Hospital regularly perform robotic-assisted knee surgery as part of their specialist practice.

Robotic arm–assisted surgery is transforming the way joint replacements are performed. For patients, the benefits of robotic-assisted knee replacement compared to conventional techniques can include:

  • Reduced length of hospital stay
  • Less post operative pain
  • Improved early functional outcomes

Before a robotic-assisted knee replacement, a CT scan is taken and securely shared with the manufacturer of the surgical system. At Goring Hall Hospital, we use the Stryker Mako robotic arm. During surgery, small trackers are placed on the patient to allow the robotic arm to identify precise bony landmarks. This supports highly accurate placement of the implant components – often within a millimetre of the planned position.

Our Mako trained Orthopaedic Consultants at Goring Hall Hospital include:  Mr Koushik Ghosh, Mr Madhu Rao, Mr Nirav Shah, Mr Kush Narang, and Mr Ali Abdulkarim

At The Goring Hall Hospital, we help patients from West Sussex and further afield access the care they need. With close to 97% of our patients saying they'd recommend our hospital to their loved ones, we are more than confident in the level of care we offer.

There are many advantages to having private knee treatment at The Goring Hall Hospital, including:

  • Free car parking space for all patients
  • Convenient public transport links to our hospital from Horsham, Worthing and Pulborough

Knee surgery, particularly procedures like knee replacement or arthroscopy, can offer several key benefits for people with chronic knee pain or joint damage. Many patients experience significant pain relief, making everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and standing for longer periods much more comfortable. Surgery can also improve joint function and mobility by restoring smoother movement and correcting structural problems within the knee.

For those with severe arthritis or injury, knee surgery may enhance overall quality of life by increasing independence, reducing reliance on pain medication, and enabling a return to hobbies, exercise, or work. Additionally, correcting joint issues can help prevent further damage and may slow the progression of degenerative conditions.

Knee surgery usually takes about one to two hours, depending on the type of procedure and the complexity of the individual case. A straightforward arthroscopy may take under an hour, while a total knee replacement typically lasts closer to one and a half to two hours as the surgeon removes the damaged joint surfaces and fits the new implant.

Additional time is needed before and after the operation for anaesthesia, preparation, and initial recovery in the theatre area, so patients can expect to be in the surgical department for several hours overall.

Our fixed-price packages cover the cost of a knee operation and the standard aftercare, giving you clarity and confidence about what you’re paying upfront.

Pre-surgery diagnostics (such as scans or blood tests) and any consultant outpatient appointments are charged separately, so your total cost will be confirmed in writing once your treatment plan is finalised.

To help you manage payment, we offer flexible, fixed-term monthly payment plans over one to five years with no deposit required — and if you spread your payments over ten months, the plan is interest-free. For policies that run longer than ten months, a standard annual percentage rate applies. If you have private medical insurance, we can also guide you through using your cover, so your surgery and aftercare may be paid directly by your insurer, subject to their terms.

Across our nationwide network of 52 hospitals, we have more than 4,000 Consultants to support you at every stage of your healthcare journey with us.

But that’s not all. There are many other benefits to choosing private healthcare at our hospitals, including:
