He first studied Dentistry in Glasgow and then pursued a career in Maxillofacial surgery, obtaining his medical degree for the same institution in 1999. After completing a basic surgical training scheme in the West of Scotland he undertook his specialist Maxillofacial training in Trent, where he became increasingly committed to the field of surgical management and reconstruction following cancer in the head and neck region.
Mr McAlister has NHS posts at Royal Blackburn Hospital and Royal Bolton Hospital, where he specialises in skin cancer management.
He is Clinical Lead for Skin Cancer at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, as well as for the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance.
