About us

At The Beardwood Hospital we have access to modern equipment and private facilities for patients in Blackburn with Darwen, the Ribble Valley and further afield.

On arrival at The Beardwood Hospital you will be welcomed by our friendly staff members, who will be more than happy to assist you during your stay with us.

We offer a wide range of services at The Beardwood Hospital, Blackburn. These include orthopaedic surgery, dermatology, general surgery, neurosurgery and gynaecology procedures. Clinical Support Services include radiology, physiotherapy and pharmacy. The outpatient consulting suite has 10 consulting rooms and operates a flexible appointment system to accommodate the needs of the patient and consultants. In addition, a treatment room is used for minor operative procedures, wound care clinics and nurse led clinics. The hospital also has a wide bore MRI scanner, CT scanner, three operating theatres equipped with a laminar flow system and a minor operating suite.

The hospital has 18 beds, with all rooms offering the privacy and comfort of en-suite facilities, satellite TV and telephone. The hospital also has a 6 bedded day-case suite, named The McGrath Suite in honour of the hospitals longest serving team member. The new suite was developed in line with modern healthcare needs, whereby techniques have improved so much that people who might have otherwise needed an overnight stay after their operation can now return home the same day.

Today over 170 consultants choose to practice from the hospital and are renowned for their experience, attracting patients worldwide.

We also have a resident medical officer (RMO) who is available 24 hours a day to ensure that patients are safe and cared for at all times. Should your care needs change following surgery or treatment, we may need to transfer you to another hospital. This will either be to an NHS or another Circle hospital. Transfers of care only take place when absolutely necessary.

Exit junction 31 and follow the signs for Blackburn on the A677. After approximately 5 miles you will reach the second set of traffic lights and you will see the Yew Tree Gardens on your left. Continue straight on towards Blackburn. The Beardwood Hospital is situated on the right, approximately ½ mile from the traffic lights.

From the M65

Exit junction 6 and take the third exit signposted A6119 Ring Road. Continue on this road for approximately 4 miles. to the junction with the A677. Turn left towards Blackburn. The Beardwood Hospital is situated on the right, approximately half a mile from the traffic lights.

      Ambulatory Care Unit (McGrath Suite)
      The McGrath Suite, which opened in 2017, is a six-bedded day-case suite named in honour of the hospital's longest-serving team member Sister Pat McGrath. The new suite was developed in line with modern healthcare needs, whereby techniques have improved so much that people who might have otherwise needed an overnight stay after their operation can now return home the same day.
