About Mr Lee Hoggett

Personal Profile

Mr. Hoggett is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at East Lancashire Hospitals specialising in hip and knee surgery. His practice includes total hip replacement, total and partial knee replacement, complex primary joint replacement, revision surgery and the assessment and management of hip and knee conditions affecting either natural joints or previous replacements. As Arthroplasty Lead for the Trust he focuses on enhanced recovery and patient-centred care, helping patients regain mobility and return to the activities they enjoy most.

Originally from Yorkshire, Mr. Hoggett graduated with Honours in Medicine from the University of Manchester. He completed his higher surgical training at leading centres across Manchester and Lancashire, undertaking comprehensive training in all aspects of orthopaedic and trauma surgery. He then undertook advanced specialist training in hip and knee replacement at the internationally renowned Wrightington Hospital where he gained experience in complex primary surgery, robotic arthroplasty and revision surgery. He further broadened his expertise through a Travelling Fellowship Grant from Post Graduate Orthopaedics, spending time at high-volume robotic joint replacement centres in Singapore and Hong Kong including Queen Mary Hospital and the National University Hospital Singapore.

Mr. Hoggett’s clinical and academic excellence has been widely recognised. In 2023 he received the Sir Walter Mercer Gold Medal for the best performance in the FRCS (Orth) examination in the UK. The following year he represented the UK as the British Orthopaedic Association’s Young Ambassador at the Hong Kong International Congress and was also named North West Trainee of the Year.

He has an established research profile with numerous publications in leading orthopaedic journals, contributions to surgical textbooks and presentations at international meetings. He has received several prizes for his research and served as research lead for the North West Orthopaedic Research Committee.

Committed to education, Mr. Hoggett holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He has taught at the University of Lancashire and is actively involved in training orthopaedic surgeons, serving as a faculty member on the Wrightington FRCS course and leading regional teaching on hip disorders for registrars across the North West.

Inspired by his father, an engineer, Mr. Hoggett values the precision and problem-solving nature of orthopaedic surgery. Outside medicine he enjoys hiking and exploring the Lake District and Ribble Valley with his whippet Winston. He believes that an active lifestyle and time outdoors mirror the goals he strives to achieve for his patients: restoring mobility, independence and quality of life.
