Private physiotherapy at Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield

Physiotherapy-in-Sheffield
Physiotherapy is a holistic treatment that can help to restore and maintain movement and function affected by injuries or certain conditions. A key principle in physiotherapy is to look at the body as a whole to improve a patient's physical and mental wellbeing.

You might need to see a physiotherapist for a number of different reasons. Physiotherapists can help with back and neck pain, sports injuries, joint pain, arthritis, muscle injuries and post-surgery rehabilitation. Some physiotherapists specialise in sports rehabilitation, women's health, men's health, acupuncture, physiotherapy for cancer, hand therapy and Pilates.

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy states that 1 in 4 adults in the UK are affected by chronic musculoskeletal disorders which are one of the most common conditions physiotherapists treat.

We know that no two conditions are the same, that's why our specialist team of HCPC registered physiotherapists can provide expert advice and develop an exercise programme tailored to you.

Speak to our friendly team today to arrange your appointment with one of our highly experienced physiotherapists.

All Thornbury Hospital physiotherapists are HCPC registered and members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists. As our physiotherapy service is housed within the hospital, we have easy access to other specialist services you may require, including fast-track access to high-quality imaging technology in our state-of-the-art scanning centre.

At Thornbury Hospital, we offer the following physiotherapy services:

  • Acupuncture physiotherapy: Acupuncture can be used on its own or in combination with other forms of physiotherapy to help ease symptoms of pain caused by a range of conditions. Very fine needles are inserted into certain trigger points in the body which stimulates the nerves under the skin and causes the body to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals (endorphins)
  • Bracing treatment: Bracing is used to help painful joints or stability issues by providing support and reducing pressure put on those joints. A brace is a supportive device and can be used to help with various injuries or chronic conditions such as ligament sprain, tendon injuries, osteoarthritis and post-operative support. Braces have a different design and function depending on where on the body they are used. Your physiotherapist will advise you on which brace is the most appropriate for you, and will ensure it is fitted correctly
  • Gait analysis: Gait analysis allows your physiotherapist to assess your dynamic posture and coordination when walking or running. Any abnormalities in your foot strike and loading pattern can lead to pain in the joints and muscles in your ankles, knees, hips and back. This assessment enables your physiotherapist to create a tailored treatment plan to help you walk and run pain-free, and to help reduce the risk of further injuries. Sometimes, you may require specialist insoles to help correct any abnormalities in your gait. We offer Phits insoles, the world's first high-tech 3D printed insole specifically created for your feet based on your dynamic gait analysis using Footscan® technology
  • General physiotherapy: Physiotherapy involves using movement, exercise and manual therapy to help improve pain and quality of life for people affected by injury or illness. It can help you improve your strength and recovery so you can get back to doing the things you love. Physiotherapy can help many people to remain independent for as long as possible. Our physiotherapists use a holistic approach to your treatment, taking into account everything from your lifestyle to your health and wellbeing when creating your tailored treatment plan
  • Hand therapy: Hand therapy is a form of holistic physiotherapy for patients with a hand or upper limb injury or condition. This could be arthritis, nerve entrapments, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, repetitive strain injury, trigger finger or soft tissue injuries and fractures. Your physiotherapist will tailor your hand therapy treatment to your needs and lifestyle.
  • JEMS® physiotherapy: The Joanne Elphinston Movement System (JEMS®) involves assessing movement and rehabilitation in a holistic way, based upon the latest research in neuroscience, biomechanics, psychology and movement rehabilitation medicine. JEMS® focuses on helping facilitate new connections within the brain and body to restore elegant, efficient and pain-free movement
  • Occupational health: Our physiotherapists can help with work-related joint or muscle pain including neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, headaches, pains in the arms, hands, wrists or fingers. These types of injuries may be referred to as repetitive strain injury or occupational overuse syndrome. As well as treating your pain, occupational health physiotherapists can educate employers and staff on safe working practices to help prevent injury
  • Pelvic health physiotherapy: Pelvic health physiotherapy refers to the treatment and rehabilitation of pelvic disorders such as bowel and bladder function, pelvic organ prolapse, chronic pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, pregnancy related problems and pelvic surgery recovery. Not all conditions are the same, and our specialist pelvic health physiotherapists use a range of treatments to help you in your recovery including exercise, stretches, advice, education, manual therapy and scar massage
  • Physiotherapy for cancer: Cancer treatment can sometimes lead to musculoskeletal problems including shoulder pain and stiffness after breast surgery or lower back pain from being less active. Physiotherapy for cancer does not treat cancer, but it does help relieve any pain or problems that can occur from cancer treatment to help you maintain your quality of life. The types of treatment offered include massage, lymphoedema management, exercise classes, breathlessness management and tailored advice and information
  • Sports injuries physiotherapy: Sometimes injuries can occur when carrying out exercise or playing a sport, whether due to trauma (acute injury) or the overuse of a certain muscle or joint over a prolonged period of time (chronic injury). The sooner your sports injury is treated, the better. Common sports injuries we can help with include sprains, strains, fractures, dislocations, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, Achilles tendon ruptures, rotator cuff injuries and tendonitis. The way your sports injury is treated depends on the location and severity of the injury. Minor sports injuries can usually be treated at home, but sometimes, you may require further treatment
