Physiotherapy is a highly effective form of physical treatment to help restore, maintain, and improve your overall function and mobility. Physiotherapists have a comprehensive understanding of your everyday movement and can help you regain your independence following an exercise-related injury.

Whatever the sport or injury, sport and exercise physiotherapy can help you regain strength, flexibility, and movement, allowing you to continue playing sport with ease. Your chartered physiotherapist will tailor your programme around your fitness schedule to ensure you recover quickly and get back to practicing sport as soon as possible.

At Circle Health Group, we have a large network of chartered physiotherapists who can perform tailored physiotherapy for any sports injury - building your programme for you, and helping you follow it properly at home as well as during your sessions in order to achieve the best possible results. We also have a range of physiotherapy units, gyms and facilities with cutting-edge equipment across our hospitals to aid your sessions and get you back doing what you love.

The cost of physiotherapy for a sports injury starts from £64 for your first appointment.* This is based on a 45-minute appointment and includes a full assessment and treatment plan.

The cost of follow-up appointments starts from £50.*

The cost of your total physiotherapy treatment will depend on various factors such as your condition, how many sessions you need and what type of treatment you are recommended. Some of our specialist treatments, such as steroid injection therapy, are priced separately, however you will be informed of any additional charges as part of your treatment planning. Your physiotherapist will always discuss your treatment options with you.

You don't need to be a professional athlete to have sports physiotherapy. Even if you play sport as a hobby for fun, you might need a series of physiotherapy sessions following an exercise-related injury on the pitch or the court. All sports carry the risk of injury. The more contact during a sport, the greater the risk of you being injured.

For example, if you play rugby or football, you are more likely to experience a sports-related injury due to the high level of contact involved. Common injuries among people who play rugby and football include medial collateral ligament (MCL) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprains and tears, as well as meniscus tears. MCL and ACL sprains cause severe pain and a popping sound in your knee. Other symptoms include:

  • Swelling in your knee
  • Difficulty when walking
  • The loss of a full range of movement in your knee
  • Difficulty when straightening your knee

Meniscus tears also cause pain, swelling, stiffness, and limited movement in your knee.

Other common sports injuries include fractures (broken bones due to direct blows to your bone) and issues with your rotator cuff (the group of muscles and tendons that surround your shoulder).

If you are a professional athlete, you might need ongoing sports and exercise physiotherapy to ensure your joints are protected from injury and remain strong and flexible throughout the duration of your career.

Your physiotherapist will take a holistic approach to your physiotherapy, ensuring your programme is built around your individual needs and sports schedule. They will take the time to get to know you and create tailored fitness goals for you to achieve throughout your sessions, ensuring you retain strength and flexibility when playing sport.

People who play sport regularly are likely to experience persistent muscle swelling and stiffness, so it is important to have ongoing physiotherapy to reduce swelling and inflammation in your joints and maintain your overall fitness levels.

There are many types of physiotherapy used to treat sports injuries, including:
