About Mr Jeff Downie

Personal Profile

Mr Downie is a consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who has a specialist interest in Facial Aesthetic and Reconstructive surgery. He first qualified with commendations from Edinburgh University in 1991. He is qualified in Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry. His Basic General Surgical and Maxillofacial training was undertaken in the West of Scotland and Tayside. Following this postgraduate training he has been awarded Fellowships in Surgery from the Edinburgh, Glasgow and London Royal College of Surgeons. In addition, he has received many distinction awards in areas such as Anatomy, Prosthetics and Radiology.

Mr Downie’s interests include all aspects of oral-facial surgery. This includes rhitidectomy (face lifts), rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), facial rejuvenation, blepharoplasty (eye lid surgery), brow lift, orthognathics, mole removal, scar revision, implantology and the surgical interface between aesthetic dentistry and aesthetic facial surgery.

He practices facial surgery in the West of Scotland and his NHS sub-specialty is facial deformity and post traumatic facial reconstruction. In addition, he treats skin cancers, salivary gland disease and is trained in all aspects of hard and soft tissue oral-facial surgery.

Mr Downie is a Clinical Lecturer at Glasgow University and an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons. He is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training and is a regular speaker at National and International conferences. He has been involved in creating and running anatomy cadaveric dissection courses both in the UK and Globally and has developed the ‘layered’ approach to teaching anatomy of the head and neck to simplify the understanding of tissue planes and danger points.
