Consultants perform gynaecological laparoscopies to treat or diagnose a condition. Through this procedure the consultant can see inside your lower abdomen with the use of the laparoscope (a tiny camera).
Conditions such as endometriosis and ovarian cysts can be diagnosed and treated by a gynaecological laparoscopy.
Another procedure for diagnosis that is performed at Beardwood Hospital is a hysteroscopy. This examines the inside of the womb by passing a narrow tube with a camera on the end through your vagina and images are sent to a monitor for a consultant to examine.
Vaginal wall repair surgery is performed to correct a prolapse. There are two types of vaginal prolapses that can be treated; an anterior colporrhaphy to correct a prolapse of the bladder into the vagina or a posterior colporrhaphy to repair the rear vaginal wall and place the rectum to its normal position.
An oophorectomy is surgery to remove either one or both of your ovaries. This procedure may be performed for one of the following reasons: an abscess including on the ovary, ovarian cancer or endometriosis.
