People visit us from local areas including Bromley, Orpington, Sevenoaks, Hayes and Tonbridge, as well as Biggin Hill, Westerham, Tonbridge Wells and Chislehurst. We also welcome patients from across the UK as well as abroad. When you go private, you can choose which hospital and which consultant are the best fit for you. Your child’s health
We understand that your child’s welfare is your highest concern. The hospital is registered to admit surgical paediatric cases over the age of three.
Being in hospital can be daunting for anyone but children can find it particularly frightening. Having a child in hospital can be equally difficult to deal with if you are the parent.
At Chelsfield Park Hospital, we try to ease the anxiety for both you and your child – our aim is to keep your child’s stay in hospital as short as possible.
Our hospital is experienced in making children feel comfortable and relaxed about their stay.
The key to helping your child in hospital is to explain to them what is going on. We will help you with this by telling you as much as we can about your child’s condition, the agreed treatment/procedure and the timescale for what’s going to happen.
We find that if parents stay with their children for as long as possible, including overnight if necessary, then children cope better.
Younger children benefit from sticking to their usual routine as much as possible while in hospital.
Our paediatric specialists work within the pricing structure of the primary medical insurers.
Your paediatrician can refer your child to a wide range of paediatric specialists, including consultants who practice:
We offer Pathology Services with experienced staff to care for children's needs.
Appointments can be made at various times from Monday to Saturday with after-school hours available. You can make an appointment directly:
A consultant specialist paediatrician is a qualified doctor who will have spent many years in caring for children. They will have had a broad training, from the intensive care of a premature baby, through to disorders of teenagers of school-leaving age.
Most paediatricians in the UK are specialists with a wide range of experience in treating children, and will give an opinion and support many conditions. They are particularly knowledgeable about how parents and children interact. Some paediatricians sub-specialise in other areas, for example, gastroenterology or growth and developments.
Paediatricians tend to be more informal and interact with their patients, being known to make jokes and even play games with their patients to put them at ease.
This can vary according to availability, but same day appointments are possible. Alternatively they can be made at your convenience in advance. There is a paediatrician in the hospital every day, Monday – Saturday.
If your child requires medical treatment out of hours please consult EMDOC, your emergency GP or local A and E department. We do not accept emergency paediatric admissions at Chelsfield Park Hospital.
If you are concerned about any aspect of your child’s health or development, the paediatricians would be pleased to see you. However, if your child is acutely unwell or needs emergency treatment, we must advise you to go to your GP or nearest Accident and Emergency Department in the normal way.
We can see children of all ages from 0 months to 18 years of age in our outpatients department and admit children above the age of three for routine minor surgery.
We aim to support the needs of all children and families attending the hospital, and of course we comply fully with the Healthcare Commission requirements for paediatrics in hospitals. There is a team of specialist paediatric staff to support the consultant paediatricians.
Following your consultation, if required, the paediatrician can refer you to a wide range of clinicians with expertise in paediatric care (e.g. dietician, psychologist, surgeons etc) either at Chelsfield Park Hospital or at other centres of excellence.
