About Shahnaz Jamil Copley

Personal Profile

Dr Jamil-Copley is a general Cardiologist specialising in the care and treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias, including advanced mapping and ablation of both simple and complex arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia). She also implants complex cardiac devices, including defibrillators and biventricular pacemakers/defibrillators.

Her main clinical and academic focus is the mapping and ablation of ventricular arrhythmias and in particular scar-related ventricular tachycardia. 

Education

Dr Jamil-Copley read medicine at Sheffield University from where she qualified in 1999. During her training in internal medicine she spent 1 year in Australia and obtained her MRCP in 2002. She completed her Cardiology and Electrophysiology and device training at Nottingham University Hospitals and St Mary's and Hammersmith Hospitals in London. She obtained further clinical EP experience in VT mapping and ablation at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.

She obtained her PhD from Imperial College London, funded by the British Heart Foundation, researching novel techniques for mapping and ablating ventricular tachycardia. She has both published her work in high impact cardiology journals and presented her research extensively at national and international conferences. She is the research and innovations lead at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

 

Teaching

Dr Jamil-Copley organises the undergraduate Cardiology training program at Nottingham City Hospital and herself participates in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching locally as well as at the Royal Society of Medicine, London.
