About Mr Seb Sturridge

Personal Profile

Mr Seb Sturridge sees patients with hip and knee conditions but has sub-specialist interests in sports-related hip injuries, young adult hip surgery, hip arthroscopy and replacement. He offers patients with hip and knee conditions solutions such as joint preserving surgery, partial and total joint replacement and surgery to replace a failing implant.

Training and Appointment

Seb was born in London, educated at Ampleforth College in York and studied medicine at University College London. He was a research fellow at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and went on to higher surgical training through Guy’s St. Thomas’ and King’s Hospitals. He was fellowship trained in Hip and Knee revision surgery in Melbourne, Australia and then at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He was appointed the Guy’s Hip Fellow in 2010 where he developed his interest in young adult hip surgery and minimally invasive surgery techniques.

Seb specialises in hip arthroscopy, a treatment for the hip joint, using a minimally invasive approach which usually enables a quicker return to daily activities.  This technique can address intra-articular hip pathology like hip impingement, labral tears, osteochondral defects and loose bodies, as well as extra articular soft tissue diagnoses like bursitis and tendinopathy.

Current Practice

Seb strives to provide personalised, high-quality care to his patients.  During an initial consultation, he will ask questions to assess the level of pain and its impact on a patient's day to day activity, as well as clinically examining the hip or knee to ascertain the cause of the pain.

Patients can also expect to be x-rayed, or perhaps also given an MRI scan (best for picking up pre-arthritic conditions in both hip and knee joints).

If patients need to have surgery, including hip replacements, Seb will admit them on the morning of surgery and usually discharge the day after.  He uses a minimally invasive surgical approach to minimise muscle injury and blood loss, which then enables patients to walk on the same day as their surgery.

Similarly, Seb uses an arthroscopic approach to assess and treat knee joints; this technique can highlight meniscal tears, osteochondral defects and loose bodies.  He performs both unicompartmental (partial) and full knee replacements surgery, which will both help restore normal joint alignment, mobility and function.

Teaching

Seb has been a consultant hip and knee surgeon at Frimley Park Hospital since 2010. He continues to publish, and lectures internationally. He runs a successful fellowship, accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons, with a national reputation.
