About Dr Richard Paul Sarsam

Personal Profile

Dr Richard Sarsam is a Consultant Gastroenterologist practising at Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He has extensive gastroenterology and endoscopy training in both the South and North Thames  Deanery including an 18-month period in the Royal Free Liver Unit and a two year research period on the role of bacteria in gallstones and colon cancer at Guy's Hospital. He has expertise in all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP performing around 1800 endoscopic procedures annually. He is also an accredited screening colonscopist for the bowel cancer screening programme.

He has introduced two procedures to The Princess Margaret Hospital. The first is a capsule endoscopy of the small intestine which is the gold standard method to image the small bowel - useful in patients with obscure  abdominal pain, anaemia, and Crohn's disease. The second is bravo capsule insertion at endoscopy for 48-hour pH monitoring - useful with patients with reflux disease and dyspepsia.
