About Mr Rahul Bamal

Personal Profile

Mr Rahul Bamal is a distinguished Consultant Hand, Wrist, and Plastic Surgeon at the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Foundation Trust. He holds the rare distinction of dual GMC Specialist Registration in both Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery. This unique combination allows him to provide a truly comprehensive service, merging the meticulous reconstructive techniques of plastic surgery with the advanced orthopaedic principles of the upper limb.

After completing his primary and postgraduate surgical training (MS and MCh) in India, Mr Bamal undertook a prestigious International Fellowship on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia (2017–2018). During this tenure under the aegis of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA), he refined his expertise in complex upper limb orthopaedics, trauma, and sports-related injuries within one of Australia’s most rigorous surgical training environments.

Following his time in Australia, Mr Bamal served as an Assistant Professor in India, where he led clinical and academic activity in Plastic, Maxillofacial, and Burns surgery. Since moving to the United Kingdom in 2019, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) and was awarded the European Board Diploma in Hand Surgery (FESSH). Widely considered the "gold standard" qualification in Europe, this diploma signifies a deep mastery of the entire spectrum of hand and wrist pathology.

He is a recognized leader in surgical education and safety, holding membership in the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME) and currently serving as the Clinical Governance Lead for Hand & Plastic Surgery at Salford Royal Hospital. In this role, Mr Bamal is responsible for maintaining the highest safety standards and clinical outcomes within the Trust.

His elective practice covers a broad range of conditions, from advanced Dupuytren’s disease (utilizing both minimally invasive and traditional fasciectomy) to complex hand trauma and nerve decompression (including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome). He maintains a particular interest in nerve and tendon reconstruction. His Australian orthopaedic experience makes him uniquely proficient in managing complex wrist pathologies, including trauma, scaphoid pathology, wrist arthroscopy, and ligament reconstructions.

Additionally, his plastic surgery background ensures a meticulous approach to reconstructive plastic surgery, including scar revision, soft tissue reconstruction, and the surgical treatment of various lumps, bumps, and ganglions.

Mr Bamal is a GMC-recognised trainer and an active member of several global bodies, including the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), and the Indian Society for Surgery of the Hand (ISSH).

His clinical philosophy is rooted in precision and communication; he works closely with specialised hand therapists to ensure that every surgical intervention is supported by a robust rehabilitation plan to restore full function. Living and working in the North West, Mr Bamal is committed to providing outstanding surgical care to the local community, ensuring results that are both functionally superior and aesthetically refined.
