About us

At Fairfield Independent Hospital, we offer modern facilities and high quality private healthcare for patients in St Helens, Merseyside and the wider Northwest region.

From the moment you arrive, you will be greeted by our friendly team, who are here to support you throughout your visit and ensure you feel safe, comfortable and well cared for.

We provide a wide range of services including orthopaedic surgery, general surgery, cardiology, dermatology, plastic and cosmetic surgery, private physiotherapy, and diagnostic imaging. Our clinical support services including radiology, physiotherapy and pre assessment, allow your care to be managed smoothly from consultation through to recovery.

Outpatient facilities

Our outpatient department has 10 consulting rooms and offers flexible appointments to accommodate the needs of patients and consultants. Minor procedures, wound care and nurse led clinics are carried out in our dedicated minor treatment room.

Our radiology department provides X ray and ultrasound imaging, supported by on site access to MRI scanning and off site CT services. With your consent, we can also access imaging from other hospitals to avoid unnecessary repeat scans.

Treatment facilities

We have two modern operating theatres, both equipped with ultra clean ventilation systems, supporting a wide range of procedures including major orthopaedic surgery. A dedicated treatment area is used for laser varicose vein procedures, and our theatre recovery unit ensures safe postoperative monitoring.

We offer 28 private en suite bedrooms, all designed to provide comfort, privacy and space to recover. Many rooms overlook our gardens, and our rooftop garden provides a calm, restorative environment for patients and visitors.

Our team and standards

More than 190 staff work at Fairfield, alongside over 70 experienced consultants who choose to practise here. A resident medical officer (RMO) is available on site to support patient safety. If your care needs change, a transfer to an NHS or Circle hospital may be required — but only when absolutely necessary.

As part of Circle Health Group, and with a major refurbishment programme which began in 2025, we remain committed to delivering exceptional, personalised care for every patient who chooses Fairfield.

More about Fairfield Independent Hospital

    • An overview of the facilities at our hospital

The facilities at Fairfield Independent Hospital include:

      • Ten outpatient consulting rooms where consultants can meet patients, discuss their symptoms, and propose a course of treatment. Consultants can also undertake minor procedures in the consultation rooms
      • A treatment and diagnosis room where we can assess patients before a visit to theatre, or patients can receive a minor treatment from a consultant or one of our nurses as part of our nurse-led services
      • A CO2 laser, used in the treatment of skin problems including basal cell carcinomas, rhinophyma, and xanthelasma
      • Two imaging rooms where we can undertake X-ray imaging and ultrasounds. During the week these facilities are supplemented by access to our off-site CT scan service and on-site MRI scanner. All patient images are accessible to consultants for diagnosis via our digital imaging. With patient consent, we can also access images taken at other hospitals, which reduces the number of times patients need to be scanned
      • A physiotherapy treatment room and fully equipped gymnasium, offering specialist physiotherapy treatments including Shockwave treatment
      • Two operating theatres. Both have ultra-clean ventilation systems, which reduces the chances of wound infection during surgery

      • A theatre recovery area
      • A sterile services area, where equipment used in surgery is cleaned and maintained on-site
