About Dr Nazar Sharaf

Personal Profile

Dr Sharaf is a Consultant Neurologist at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust in Greater Manchester and also works as a visiting Neurologist at Fairfield General Hospital, Bury. In addition, he currently holds an Honorary Lecturer post in Neurosciences at Manchester University where he regularly teaches medical students.

Dr Sharaf is a summa cum laude graduate of Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman where he obtained his B.Sc. and M.D in 2000. He obtained his PhD in Molecular Immunology from the University of Sheffield in 2006. During his PhD he focused on molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying inter-individual variation in adoptive and innate immunity, in particular in IL1 gene cluster. He found his research topic very intellectually exciting and challenging and hence pursued his career in inflammatory disorders.

He completed his General Medical and General Neurology specialist training at North Western Deanery (Manchester) in 2014 and was appointed as Consultant Neurologist in the same hospital.

Dr Sharaf is trained in general neurological conditions including headaches, blackouts, dizziness, epilepsy, weakness and mobility problems, tremors, sensory problems, memory problems, cerebrovascular diseases, neuropathies, central nervous system disorders, muscle disorder and neuromuscular disorders.

Dr Sharaf has a number of scientific and clinical publications in relation to his research and clinical interests.
