Dr Nazar Sharaf

Dr Sharaf is a Consultant Neurologist at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust at Greater Manchester and also works as a visiting Neurologist at Fairfield General Hospital, Bury. In addition, he currently holds an Honorary Lecturer post in Neurosciences at Manchester University, UK where he also regularly teaches medical students.

Dr Sharaf is a summa cum laude graduate of Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman where he obtained his B.Sc. and M.D in 2000. He obtained his PhD in Molecular Immunology from the University of Sheffield, UK in 2006. During his PhD he focused on molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying inter-individual variation in adoptive and innate immunity, in particular in IL1 gene cluster. He found his research topic very intellectually exciting and challenging and hence pursued his career in inflammatory disorders.

Dr Sharaf completed his general medical and General Neurology specialist training at North Western Deanery (Manchester) in 2014 and was instantly appointed as Consultant Neurologist in the same hospital.

Dr Sharaf has a number of scientific and clinical publications in relation to his research and clinical interests.

Dr Sharaf is trained in general neurological conditions including headaches, blackouts, dizziness, epilepsy, weakness and mobility problems, tremors, sensory problems, memory problems, cerebrovascular diseases, neuropathies, central nervous system disorders, muscle disorder and neuromuscular disorders.

His special interest is in Multiple Sclerosis and related disorders including atypical Neuro-Inflammatory disorders such as Sjogren’s disease, Behçet’s, neurosarcoidosis, vasculitis, paraneoplastic disorders and antibody mediated neuro-inflammatory disorders including myasthenia.
