He qualified in medicine from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London in 1987 and has been privileged to train in busy regional plastic surgery units in Chepstow, East Grinstead and London. He acquired additional expertise in breast reconstruction and plastic surgery of the breast in Atlanta, USA; in breast reconstruction at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London and in aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery at the Wellington Hospital, London.
Mr Irwin was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1991 and became FRCS(Plast) and European Board certified by examination in 1998. A period of full time research culminated in his being awarded the Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His name was entered on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery in 2000.
Mr Irwin offers a comprehensive repertoire of plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures to those seeking to improve/alter their appearance. He has developed a personal interest and has an established reputation in breast reconstruction and cosmetic and plastic surgery of the breast. He is a valuable and respected member of the multi-disciplinary Breast Team in Cambridge. Other areas of expertise include facial cosmetic surgery and body contouring after weight loss including abdominoplasty, body lifts and liposuction.
Patients find Mr Irwin easy to talk to and approachable and that he communicates all relevant information clearly. In keeping with good clinical practice, Mr Irwin prefers to consult with all new patients at least twice; the second time at no extra charge. This allows time to think things over thoroughly, read the information leaflets given to you and make an informed decision on how to proceed.
