Personal Profile

Maria was born and raised in Greece.

She initially studied Medicine at Semmelweis University in Budapest Hungary. She later obtained her primary medical degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Following 2 years of core surgical training, she moved to the UK in 2007 to continue with the Plastic Surgery training. She spent 2 years at Selly Oak Hospital as a junior doctor, where she was part of the Plastic Surgery team, treating patients with extensive injuries in military combat.

She then spent 1 year at the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, and 4 years in the University Hospitals Birmingham training program.

In addition, she completed a fellowship in microsurgery at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium with the internationally renowned team lead by Professor Philippe Blondeel, and a further fellowship in facial plastic surgery at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam. Maria’s last fellowship was in skin oncology at the University Hospitals Birmingham.

Maria is triple qualified in Plastic Surgery, with specialist qualifications from the Hellenic Ministry of Health, the European Board of Plastic Surgery (EBOPRAS) and the Royal College of Surgeons FRCS (Plast). 

She holds an NHS substantive post at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.

She specialises in skin cancer treatment starting from prevention, early detection, removal and reconstruction.

She also performs sentinel lymph node biopsies, and lymphadenectomies.

Maria is part or the abdominal wall reconstruction multidisciplinary team at Russell’s Hall Hospital and
she is a Mohs Surgeon and part of the Mohs department at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS trust. 

As a Plastic Surgeon, she has competency in all types of aesthetic surgery, with a special interest in facial aesthetics such as facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts and eyelid surgery.
Her training and genuine interest in patient’s holistic wellbeing, allows her to help patients with multiple concerns. 

She performs breast reductions, breast uplifts, breast augmentations, tummy tucks, arm and thigh lifts, ear corrections, scar revisions, mole removals and several other types of general plastic surgery procedures.  

She is a GMC registered Educational Supervisor for the West Midlands Deanery trainees. She acts as faculty in FRCS Plast preparation courses helping the new Plastic Surgeons succeed in their final qualifications.

Maria is active in research, and she is currently the Principal Investigator at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust for the HEALS2 study. This study assesses whether the use of compression stockings affects the healing after the removal of skin cancers of the leg.

Maria is a passionate yogini and is a keen tennis and pickleball player. She speaks 3 languages and loves travelling.
