Personal Profile

Mr Jordi Sanchez-Ballester is a lead Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in St Helens, Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He specialises in lower limb foot and ankle treatment, as well as knee surgery, trauma surgery and osteoarthritis.

He trained in medicine at Barcelona’s Universidad Autonoma before relocating to the UK to complete his postgraduate studies in London and Manchester. He was awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998 and of Intercollegiate Royal College of Surgeons in trauma and orthopaedics in 2003. He has gained a wealth of clinical experience through his many years work at St Helens and Whiston Hospitals as both a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and the clinical director of the trauma and orthopaedic department, a position which he has held from 2013 till 2020. 

Alongside his surgical and clinical commitments, he holds  a number of senior positions in medical education, including as a member the examiners panel of the intercollegiate speciality examination in trauma and orthopaedics UK and International and as an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Edge Hill and Liverpool. He is involved in developing and running academic programs for medical students, doctors and surgeons in training. 

Throughout his career he has lectured nationally and internationally on "Foot & Ankle, Knee" pathologies, and He has published widely in medical journals. Also, he is a member of national and international professional organisations.

Mr Sanchez-Ballester strongly believe in offering complete multidisciplinary "Foot & Ankle, Knee" treatment and he works with a dedicated team of Rheumatologists, Diabetologists, physiotherapists, podiatrists and orthotists at Fairfield Independent Hospital in St Helens and Whiston hospitals.

He has developed close links when referring therapists and clinicians, ensuring that their patients get the highest standard of care.
