Prior to studying medicine John was a fully qualified and practising physiotherapist. It was here that his interest in musculoskeletal medicine and sports injuries developed. He then returned to the University of East Anglia to undertake his medical degree which he completed in 2010.
His career in orthopaedic surgery began in 2012 and since this time he has gained experience in numerous hospitals and centres around the country including the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. He finished his training locally and undertook his knee surgery fellowship in the Royal Bournemouth Hospital training under the very experienced knee surgeons working there. As such he developed his practice to offer a wide range of treatments for those with arthritis, cartilage injuries and soft tissue problems of the knee.
He currently works as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in the University Hospitals Dorset (Poole Hospital and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital) where his main focus is on knee surgery and trauma.
Through his practice as both a physiotherapist and surgeon John brings a unique perspective when it comes to managing patients with orthopaedic problems. His personal experience of using exercise and rehab to treat knee problems means he will only suggest surgical options when he feels it is appropriate to do so. He also understands how vital they are both pre and post-operative periods to gain the most from any treatments.
Outside of work John enjoys spending time with his young family and enjoying the outdoor opportunities around Dorset and south coast.
