About Mr Jawad Sultan

Personal Profile

Mr Sultan is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, who specialises in the management of disorders of the knee. His clinical practice includes the treatment of sports injuries, ligament injuries, patella instability, arthritis and knee replacements (partial and total). 

He completed his specialist surgical training in the North West of England, and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016.  

He undertook prestigious Knee fellowships in the UK and France where he worked with world-renowned knee surgeons, specialising in partial knee replacements, knee ligaments reconstruction and patellofemoral joint surgery.

He started as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Royal Bolton Hospital in 2017, before being selected in 2021 to lead the acute knee injury services at Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This includes Manchester Royal Infirmary and Trafford General Hospital, and is one of the UK's largest major trauma centres. 

Mr Sultan is experienced in clinical and laboratory research, including the use of gait analysis. He completed a MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering at Cardiff University. His dissertation, 'A New Approach to Prevention of Knee Osteoarthritis', was presented at national and international conferences, and was awarded the Sir John Charnley and British Association of Surgeons of the Knee prizes. 

Mr Sultan has several publications, and has made numerous presentations at national and international conferences. He regularly teaches on knee replacement and ATLS courses.

He is a frequent examiner of medical students at the University of Manchester, and is actively involved in training junior surgeons in the NHS.
