Personal Profile

Mr Smith is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and his practice concentrates primarily on lower limb surgery. His training was focused on joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee. He is also an experienced arthroscopic knee surgeon. He has over 10 years’ experience as a consultant and performs in excess of 350 joints replacements per year including more complex procedures.

Mr Smith was born and raised in East Kent. He qualified in 2000 at St Georges’ Hospital Medical School, University of London. His post graduate specialist Orthopaedic training was on the South East Thames rotation where he gained experience and knowledge in a broad range of Orthopaedic specialities. He completed the MRCS part 1 and 2 in London as well as the Final FRCS Tr and Orth in London at first attempt.  Following his training he completed two fellowships , one in Calgary, Canada and one in the UK at Guy’s hospital. These fellowships focused primarily on surgery of the hip and knee. During his training he also achieved a Diploma in Orthopaedics at the University of Brighton.

He was appointed Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford in 2012 where he developed a lower limb reconstruction service which focused on the introduction enhanced recovery to the trust which produced high volume of procedures with minimal complications. He is experienced in complex surgeries. Having recently given up his nhs role his practice now focuses entirely within the independent sector. He sees patients from all providers including NHS patients using the e-referral service. Mr Smith uses the latest technology and diagnostic investigation. He has a team of specialist radiologists.

Mr Smith also provides a specialist Orthopaedic Medicolegal reporting service which enables him to keep up to date and maintains regular medicolegal training.

Despite no longer working within the NHS Mr Smith has maintained his interest in training more junior trainees and trainee operating staff. He teaches annually on an Arthroscopy course in association with Canterbury Christchurch University.

Mr Smith works closely with the multi-disciplinary team and is focused on achieving excellent outcomes for his patients using modern techniques including minimally invasive surgery and enhanced recovery.  He performs hip and knee replacements using tried and tested prostheses with excellent long term results. Working at the Chaucer hospital enables his patients access to experienced theatre teams, nurses and Physiotherapists which enhance the results of his procedures.
