About us

Chaucer Hospital in the historic city of Canterbury, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the English county of Kent. Patients come to our Canterbury hospital from local areas such as Faversham, Thanet, Herne Bay and Whitstable, as well as Deal, Wye, Ashford and Maidstone. Our expert consultants, world-class facilities and truly compassionate team also attract people from further afield, across the UK and even abroad.

Chaucer Hospital, Canterbury has 55 ensuite patient bedrooms with satellite TV and high speed Wi-Fi. Our patients are supported by caring and professional medical staff with dedicated nursing teams and a resident medical officer on duty 24 hours a day providing care within a friendly and comfortable environment.

We also have a resident medical officer (RMO) who is available 24 hours a day to ensure that patients are safe and cared for at all times. Should your care needs change following surgery or treatment, we may need to transfer you to another hospital. This will either be to an NHS or another Circle hospital. Transfers of care only take place when absolutely necessary.

Car

Those travelling by car should follow the signs to Canterbury City Centre. At the large roundabout, take the exit between the Fire and Police Stations (Old Dover Road), through set of traffic lights.

Turn first right after Kent Cricket Ground (B2068) in to Nackington Road.

Chaucer Hospital is signed on the right-hand side after approximately 3/4 mile.

Bus

The main bus station is in the City Centre. The closest bus stops to the hospital are The Gap in Nackington Road or Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys in Nackington Road. Taxis are available near Fenwick's department store.

Train

Both Canterbury East and Canterbury West train stations are close to Chaucer Hospital and taxis are always available from the station taxi rank and take approximately 10 minutes to the hospital.

  • Please call the hospital where the patient is admitted, press zero for switchboard, and they will transfer your call to the patient’s room, or put you in touch with a nurse or a ward.
  • Yes, our hospitals have free WiFi access for our patients and visitors. 
  • Once your appointment is booked, you can request to receive a confirmation email or letter with all the necessary information. To find the confirmation email, please search your email inbox for any message from [email protected].

    You will also receive a text reminder 48 hours prior to your appointment with all the details you need. Please note that this will not be sent if the appointment is booked within 48 hours of the appointment date.
