About Dr Iqbal Khan

Personal Profile

Dr Iqbal Khan qualified in medicine from the University of Sheffield in 1997.  He had previously completed a dual honours degree in Biochemistry and Physiology and managed to intercalate research for a PhD (awarded in 1995) into the medical course.

His research focused on the mechanisms of upper gut sensations in man and prompted interest in developing a career in Gastroenterology.  This and subsequent research was presented at prestigious international meetings and published in peer reviewed journals. He obtained his postgraduate training in Birmingham and the West Midlands and has dual accreditation for Gastroenterology and General (internal) medicine.

He was appointed as a consultant gastroenterologist at Northampton General Hospital in June 2007 and because of his roles devoted to medical training is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer for the Universities of Leicester and Oxford.
