Mr Chris Dunkin is a Consultant Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington. He sees self-pay and insured patients.

Mr Dunkin is one of the most experienced cosmetic surgeons in the North of England, with an outstanding reputation for the quality of care he delivers, and outcomes he achieves for his patients.

University and training
Mr Dunkin went to medical school at the London Hospital Medical College, University of London. He then trained in surgery in London and Edinburgh, where he was awarded membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS), before starting his plastic surgery training.

He trained in all aspects of plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, at some of the best plastic surgery units in the UK. He completed his training in Australia at the world-famous Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he had the privilege of working with some of the finest plastic and cosmetic surgeons in the world.

Research at Oxford University
He was awarded the prestigious Duke of Kent research fellowship by the wound healing charity 'Restore' and spent the next two years at the Nuffield Department of Surgery at Oxford University in full-time research into the biology of scarring and scar prevention. He has presented his work at scientific and surgical meetings in the UK, Europe, USA and Australia. He remains a Medical Advisor to the Restore.

For this research, Mr Dunkin received awards from international scientists from the Wound Care Society (Amsterdam, 2002), the British Association of Plastic Surgeons Paton-Masser Memorial Prize from his plastic surgery peers in the UK (London, 2005) and was awarded his Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from The University of London.

Mr Dunkin was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery (FRCS (Plast)) and received his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2009. He is on the GMC Specialist Register in Plastic Surgery and was appointed Consultant Plastic Surgeon in 2009 to expand the breast reconstruction service, take on the head and neck reconstruction service and set up a multi-disciplinary facial palsy clinic.
