About Mr Caesar Wek

Personal Profile

Mr Caesar Wek is a Consultant Orthopaedic Hip and Knee Surgeon specialising in hip and knee replacement, with a particular expertise in revision hip surgery. He sees private patients at The Winterbourne Hospital in Dorchester and The Harbour Hospital in Poole.

Caesar is one of only a handful of surgeons in Dorset performing muscle-sparing, minimally invasive hip replacement using the SPAIRE and piriformis-sparing approaches. Because the muscles and tendons around the hip are preserved, most patients need none of the usual 6–12 weeks of hip precautions and can get back to normal life more quickly and confidently. He mastered these techniques at specialist centres in London and has authored a book chapter on minimally invasive hip replacement surgery.

He is dual fellowship-trained, having completed the Royal Bournemouth Hip Fellowship and the Revision Hip & Knee Replacement Fellowship at St George's Hospital, London. He accepts referrals for painful or failing hip replacements wherever the original surgery was performed.

Not every patient needs an operation. Caesar treats hip and knee arthritis at every stage, offers non-surgical options including Arthrosamid® and other injection treatments, and prides himself on honest advice, recommending surgery only when it is genuinely the right answer for a patient's symptoms and goals.

Caesar graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School and obtained a BSc (Hons) in Orthopaedic Sciences from University College London, where he received a prize for research conducted at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. He completed specialist orthopaedic training on the South-East Thames programme, including placements at King's College Hospital and Guy's & St Thomas', and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2020.

He has published widely in major orthopaedic journals and presents regularly at national and international conferences. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership from the British Orthopaedic Association Future Leaders Programme and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.

His NHS practice is based at Dorset County Hospital, where he is Clinical Lead for Trauma & Hip Fractures, implementing data-driven improvements in care for patients with hip fractures.
