Mr Azal Jalgaonkar is Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee Surgery. He has a large orthopaedic practice across Surrey and Hampshire in hip and knee joint replacement surgery, arthroscopic (keyhole) hip and knee surgery and sports soft tissue injuries. Having worked at various University Hospitals and District General Hospitals, Mr Jalgaonkar has a vast experience in managing all aspects of hip and knee problems and offers personalised advice on the most appropriate management to his patients. He has a special interest in minimally invasive hip and knee replacement surgery which aids quicker recovery following surgery.  

Training and Appointment

Mr Jalgaonkar completed his higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in London and has worked in specialist units like the Joint Reconstruction Unit for hip and knee surgery in The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He also has a Masters degree in Orthopaedics and is dual-fellowship trained including the Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship. He has visited multiple international centres to further enhance his expertise. His NHS practice is based at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Research and Publications

Mr Jalgaonkar has published his work extensively in highly reputed peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals including ‘The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery’ and ‘The Bone and Joint Journal’. He has delivered several national and international presentations and received awards at orthopaedic meetings and conferences. He is dedicated towards ongoing research in his field of practice and is currently involved in several projects and trials.

Mr Jalgaonkar recognises the importance of training the surgeons of the future and is actively involved in teaching programmes. He relishes his role as an educational and clinical supervisor. He regularly sits on the regional ARCP panel to assess the annual clinical progress of higher surgical orthopaedic trainees and is a faculty member on FRCS (Orth) courses.
