About Mr Amit Kumar

Personal Profile

Mr Kumar specialises in hip and knee surgery, namely managing arthritic conditions and performs Mako robot-assisted total hip and knee replacements. The Mako robot offers increased precision, reduced pain levels and a faster recovery time to patients.

Mr Kumar also performs arthroscopy for meniscal and cartilage conditions, and injections including steroid, platelet rich plasma and viscosupplementation. His sub-specialty interests include musculoskeletal tumour surgery namely soft tissue lumps/swellings and metastatic bone disease.

Mr Kumar has set up a One Stop Lumps Clinic, providing a one stop facility of investigation of a lump anywhere on the body.

Mr Kumar completed my medical degree at the Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2003 and undertook his early surgical training in the North West. His specialist postgraduate training in trauma and orthopaedics was in the East Midlands (South) T&O rotation. Mr Kumar subsequently completed fellowships in lower limb arthroplasty and sarcoma in Leicester, Nottingham and Wrightington Hospital

During the consultation Mr Kumar will always ensure the patient is at the centre of the decision making process, answering any questions they may have. He regularly collects outcome data and his practice is evidence based including regular positive reviews from patients.

Mr Kumar also uses The VELYS™ surgical system. This is an innovative robotic tool that aids the consultant during the knee replacement surgery, allowing for greater accuracy and precision that isn’t possible with traditional knee replacement techniques.
