For over 32 years, the hospital has served patients from Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Werndale Hospital provides fast and convenient access to private treatment and services, encompassing orthopaedics, ophthalmology, general surgery, urology, ENT, gynaecology, and more. Our highly esteemed team of expert consultants and medical professionals provide caring, professional, and compassionate support throughout the patient journey. With dedicated nursing teams and a Resident Medical Officer available 24 hours a day, we prioritise patient safety within a welcoming and comfortable environment.

Werndale Hospital features two operating theatres, a comprehensive outpatient department, a diagnostic and imaging department with X-Ray, ultrasound, MRI services, and a dedicated physiotherapy team. Our state-of-the-art technology and on-site support services empower our consultants to perform a wide array of procedures, from routine investigations to complex surgeries. All patient rooms offer privacy, en-suite facilities, TVs, and nurse call bell facilities, ensuring comfort and peace of mind.

We also have a resident medical officer (RMO) who is available 24 hours a day to ensure that patients are safe and cared for at all times. Should your care needs change following surgery or treatment, we may need to transfer you to another hospital. This will either be to an NHS or another Circle hospital. Transfers of care only take place when absolutely necessary.

Updates

What’s Changing at Werndale Hospital
At Werndale Hospital in Carmarthenshire, West Wales, we’re investing in a major redevelopment to give you the best possible care. Our improvements will help reduce waiting times, enhance your experience, and provide modern, welcoming spaces designed around your comfort. You’ll continue to receive high-quality, consultant-led care in a safe, contemporary environment.

The new extension will include:

  • Additional consulting and outpatient treatment rooms
  • A new theatre for surgery
  • Eight new en-suite patient bedrooms

Hospital remains fully open
While building work is underway, Werndale Hospital remains fully operational. All appointments, clinics, and surgeries are continuing as planned. Our dedicated team is working hard behind the scenes to keep any disruption to a minimum.

Access and parking
Temporary changes to hospital access are now in place. To keep things running smoothly:
The car park is manned by an attendant to manage traffic flow and ensure safe parking. Where possible, we encourage patients to consider being dropped off and to arrive just in time for their appointment.
New Entrance: Please use the temporary entrance near the front of the hospital, close to the car park entrance. Our car park attendant will guide you.
Reception: Once inside, our friendly reception team will be ready to help with any questions.

Coming for surgery
If you’re arriving for surgery, please use the temporary entrance. After check-in at reception, a member of our team will accompany you to the ward, ensuring you feel supported from the moment you arrive.

Saturday appointments

When you arrive at our reception, ring the call bell located outside the door, this is signposted. A member of our team will come to meet you.

Visiting hours
Monday to Saturday: Visitors are welcome until 6pm
Sunday: Visitors are welcome between 1pm and 3pm. If you need more flexibility, please speak to the ward team and they’ll do their best to help.

Noise and disruption
We’re doing everything possible to minimise disruption, but some noise is unavoidable during building works. We understand this can be unsettling, especially in a healthcare environment, and want to reassure you that our staff are here to support you. Construction is taking place during normal working hours (Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm), and we’re working closely with contractors to reduce the impact wherever possible.

Accessibility support
We’re committed to ensuring all patients can access the hospital safely and comfortably during this period. If you have specific access needs - such as mobility assistance or help navigating the new entrance - please speak to a member of staff when you arrive or contact us ahead of your visit on 01267 225 600. Our team is here to help.

Thank you
Thank you for your patience and understanding while this important work takes place. These changes are a vital part of our plans to improve private healthcare in West Wales and provide even better, faster access to care - now and in the future.
