Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses powerful magnetic fields, radiofrequency pulses and a computer to produce two and three dimensional detailed images of parts of the body. This is done by building up a series of internal cross sectional images of the body. An MRI scan can help diagnose many conditions and can be used on all parts of the body. Our scanner is wide and short in length to help ease patient anxiety and claustrophobia.
An X-Ray uses electromagnetic radiation to produce two dimensional images of the inside of the body. The X-Rays pass through the body and are absorbed at different rates by different tissues within the body depending on density. Dense material such as bones show up white on an X-Ray image, less dense areas such as organs show up much darker. An X-Ray is very good at identifying fractures to the musculoskeletal system, infections to organs or during therapeutic procedures to help guide consultants to the area being treated.
We also perform fluoroscopic examinations including barium studies and arthrography, along with X-Ray guided injections for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes and intravenous urograms.
A medical ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves that are reflected by tissues to create 2D images of the inside of the body. It is frequently used as a first line test to identify abnormalities as it has advantages over MRI and CT scans.
