The breast clinic runs on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. After an initial appointment with the consultant breast surgeon and a detailed breast examination, you will be referred for diagnostic imaging if required after your consultation.
Our onsite imaging facilities include digital mammography, breast ultrasound and guided biopsies. Once the necessary tests have been carried out, the consultant will see you again that day to establish a full diagnosis and treatment plan if required. Breast Health Assessment for age 40 and over
Breast screening is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay on top of your breast health. Even if you feel well and have no symptoms, a mammogram can detect tiny changes that may not be visible or felt - helping catch breast cancer early when treatment is often simpler and outcomes are better.
While routine screening is recommended for women aged 50–70, many women aged 40–49 choose to start earlier for reassurance and proactive care. Screening from 40 has been shown to detect issues sooner without increasing the risk of overdiagnosis. Knowing what’s normal for your body empowers you to make informed decisions as you age.
Our new service offers private breast screening for women aged 40+, including a scan, nurse triage, expert report, and follow-up if needed - all for £250. You can book if:
- You’re aged 40 or older
- You have no current breast symptoms (e.g. lumps, pain, nipple changes)
- You haven’t had a mammogram in the last 12 months
- You’re not under NHS breast clinic care
Benefits of screening include:
- Reassurance if everything looks normal
- Early detection for better treatment options
- Less invasive procedures when caught early
- More control and choice over your care
Things to keep in mind:
- Screening doesn’t prevent cancer - it helps detect it early
- Not all cancers show up on a mammogram
- Around 4–8% of people are called back for further checks, usually not cancer
- About 1 in 100 may need a biopsy; very few require surgery for non-cancerous findings
- There is a small amount of radiation exposure (similar to two return flights to Australia)
These factors may affect younger women, those on HRT, or with breast implants—but you’re in control. This service is about giving you the information and confidence to make choices that feel right for you.
Recommended screening frequency:
Ages 40–49: Every 12–18 months
Ages 50+: Every 3 years
The breast health assessment will include a triage service, mammogram and the outcome of your results and you do not need a referral for this service.
