Chaucer Hospital is able to offer an extensive range of private ENT services for patients based in Canterbury, Faversham and Dover, for the treatment of most major ear nose and throat related conditions.

The Chaucer Hospital is found in the historic city of Canterbury, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the English county of Kent. Our patients come to us from local areas such as Faversham, Thanet, Herne Bay and Whitstable, as well as Deal, Wye, Ashford and Maidstone. Our expert consultants, world-class facilities and truly compassionate team also attract people from further afield, across the UK and even abroad.

Common procedures and operations carried out by the hospital’s ENT surgeons and specialists, otorhinolaryngologists or head and neck specialists include problems of the ear, nose and throat such as tonsillectomy, grommet insertion, nasal polyps, parathyroid and thyroid surgery, head and neck cancers and bone-anchored hearing aids.

Patients can rest assured that they will always see an expert consultant regarding their condition.

Many ENT procedures can be performed in our day care unit, where patients are able to go home following their treatment.

What is ENT (Ear, nose and throat)?

Ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery, also known as otolaryngology or otorhinolaryngology, is the area of medicine that concerns conditions of the head and neck, in particular the ears, nose and throat. ENT surgeons - also known as otolaryngologists - diagnose, treat and manage problems with your ears, nose or throat.

Common problems that fall under ENT include hearing and balance issues, and problems in your head and neck that affect breathing, eating or speech. ENT surgeons can treat patients with cancer in this area of the body and they might also perform plastic and reconstructive surgery too.

How much does an ENT appointment cost at Chaucer Hospital?

The cost of an initial consultation with an ENT surgeon starts at around £200. The cost of your ENT treatment will depend on your symptoms and condition, what treatment you are recommended, and various other factors, including which consultant you choose.

Accessing private healthcare is easy, whether you choose to pay directly or use private medical insurance.

If you are paying for yourself, we can usually offer an upfront cost which you can then choose to pay in full or access one of our easy payment options.

If you have insurance, we can arrange direct settlement with your insurance provider, although you should check in advance to see if your treatment is covered. For more information, visit our private medical insurance page.

What happens at the first ENT appointment at Chaucer Hospital?

Your first ENT appointment is designed to be thorough and reassuring. During the consultation, your specialist will take a detailed history of your symptoms, including when they started, how they have changed over time and how they affect your daily life.

You will undergo a physical examination, which may include looking inside your ears, nose and throat using specialist equipment. These examinations are usually quick and not uncomfortable, and your consultant will explain what they are doing as they go.

If further tests or investigations are needed, such as hearing tests, imaging or endoscopic examination, these will be discussed clearly. By the end of your appointment, you should understand what is causing your symptoms and what treatment options are available to you.

How long does an ENT appointment take?

Most ENT appointments last between 20 and 30 minutes, although this can vary depending on the complexity of your symptoms and whether investigations are performed during the visit.

Your consultant will ensure there is enough time to discuss your concerns properly and answer any questions you may have. If further assessment or procedures are required, follow-up appointments will be arranged as appropriate.

Private appointments allow flexibility and ensure you do not feel rushed during your consultation.
