At The Blackheath Hospital, we offer a private paediatric service that treats children and adolescents up to the age of 18 years, who are based in Greenwich, Lewisham or Bexley.
We know that treatment for your children is of the utmost importance and can be a very worrying time.
Our consultant paediatricians cover children’s conditions across a wide range of specialties.
A tonsillectomy is the removal of the tonsils. This is normally performed on children who have a repeated infection. The tonsils are there to help your child build up immunity and fight infection. If the tonsils become repeatedly infected and are causing your child lots of discomfort, removing them will mean that they will no longer get infected tonsils. Your consultant will be able to discuss the options with you and let you know which option is most suitable for you.
A squint, or strabismus, is a common condition in children, where the eyes are not strong enough, so they look in different directions.
Different methods can solve the correction and re-train the eye such as glasses or eye patches. In cases where other treatments have not worked squint surgery is performed to straighten the eye, during the surgery the consultant will straighten the muscles around the eye.
A circumcision is the removal of the foreskin and is carried out on boys if they have a medical need. This could be a tight foreskin, a repeated infection of the foreskin or head of the penis. The removal of the foreskin will alleviate the problem.
Orchioplexy is the surgery to move an undescended testicle. Undescended testicles will usually move down into the scrotum by the time your child is 3 to 6 months old. However, if this does not happen then surgery is recommended. This should ideally be carried out before your child is 12 months old.
Accessing private healthcare is easy, whether you choose to pay directly or use private medical insurance.
If you are paying for yourself, we can usually offer an upfront cost which you can then choose to pay in full or access one of our easy payment options.
If you have insurance, we can arrange direct settlement with your insurance provider, although you should check in advance to see if your treatment is covered. For more information, visit our private medical insurance page.
