This involves removing the damaged components of your hip joint and replacing them with an artificial prosthesis. A modern artificial hip is designed to last for at least 15 years, helping people remain active and pain-free for over a decade.

Hip resurfacing surgery

Unlike traditional hip replacement surgery, with a hip resurfacing your Consultant will not remove your femoral head (the top of your thigh) completely during this procedure. Instead, they will trim it and cap it with a metal covering.

Hip injection treatment involves the insertion of a steroid injection directly into your hip joint to relieve symptoms of swelling and pain caused by conditions such as arthritis. Hip injection treatment is usually performed using local anaesthetic.

Hip arthroscopy surgery 

Hip arthroscopy helps diagnose and treat a range of hip problems. The procedure allows your Consultant to see inside your hip using a camera inserted through incisions in your skin, helping them to diagnose the cause of your pain. For certain conditions, treatment can also be performed during the arthroscopy. It is sometimes referred to as keyhole surgery.
