Cosmetic Surgery at Mount Alvernia Hospital in Guildford

If you are considering cosmetic surgery, at The Mount Alvernia Hospital we offer a range of options from breast surgery to face lifts.

Having cosmetic surgery may be a life-changing decision and should always be given careful consideration.  This is why we offer a consultant-led service, from initial consultation through to aftercare of treatment. Our consultants will advise on the range of cosmetic treatment options, ensuring the decision you make is right for you.

Some of the main cosmetic surgery treatments offered at The Mount Alvernia Hospital are:

Breast surgery

Breast reduction surgery

A breast reduction can make your breasts smaller and improve their proportion in relation to your body. For many women suffering from the effects of overly large breasts, a breast reduction can offer relief in improving physical problems such as back pain and neck pain. It can also improve their confidence along with the new shape.

The procedure of breast reduction surgery involves making an incision around the nipple and horizontally from the nipple to the breast crease to remove excess skin and tissue.  The nipple will then be repositioned to complement the new breast shape and create a natural result.

Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation involves the enlargement of the breast. If you are looking to increase your breast size, improve the shape of your breasts or balance breasts of different sizes, breast augmentation can help you achieve the desired result.

Breast augmentation surgery will involve the insertion of implants beneath the breast tissue to increase the size of the breast. Prior to surgery the consultant will discuss the desired the breast size and result you seek. After your operation, you should be able to go home the same day, or possibly the day afterwards.

Breast lift

If you would like to improve the shape of your breasts, then breast lift surgery might be the surgery for you.  You might choose to have a breast lift if your breasts sag or your nipples point downward, creating a drooping appearance.  If you are conscious of this, a breast lift might also help to boost your self-image and confidence.

The procedure of a breast lift involves removing part of the breast skin to be able to lift the breast and reshape the remaining tissue into a higher, firmer shape. Unlike breast reduction surgery, you will retain all of your breast tissue with only the excess breast skin removed.

Weight loss surgery

Weight loss surgery, also called bariatric surgery, is an option if you are considering losing weight. Weight loss surgery minimises the amount of food you can eat by reducing the size of your stomach, helping you to maintain weight loss.

There are several weight loss procedures available. These include gastric band, gastric bypass, gastric balloon and sleeve gastrectomy.  All of these procedures will be discussed with you with by the consultant to help you understand and decide which option is the right one for you. We also advise you read about all options in detail to help with your decision.

If you are looking to alter your body shape for a more toned appearance, then liposuction might be an option to consider.  Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure used to remove unwanted excess body fat, which involves sucking out small areas of fat that are hard to lose with exercise and a healthy diet. It is normally performed on specific parts of the body where deposits of fat tend to collect such as the stomach, hips thighs, buttocks and upper arms.

Tummy tuck surgery

A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat from the stomach to improve the shape of the stomach and tighten the abdominal muscles, to give you a firmer and flatter stomach. The aim is to remove excess  skin that can't be reduced through exercise. A tummy tuck can also be considered if you have weaker abdominal muscles after pregnancy or excess skin from weight loss. Tummy tuck surgery is not directed toward weight reduction, and it is not suitable for those who are overweight. It is designed to remove only as much excess skin and fatty tissue as is practical and safe.

Rhinoplasty surgery is a procedure to change the shape of your nose. The procedure can be considered if you feel unhappy with the size and/or shape of your nose.

There are two ways to perform the procedure. Your surgeon can make your nose smaller in an operation called a reduction rhinoplasty, or larger in an augmentation rhinoplasty. It’s important to be sure about what you don’t like about your nose so that your surgeon knows what you would like to change.

Face lift

As you get older the skin of the face can lose its firmness, elasticity and definition, creating sagging skin and wrinkles. This will result from aging and lifestyle factors such as sun exposure, smoking, substantial weight loss and stress. A face lift, or rhytidoplasty, treats loose skin, wrinkles and lack of muscle tone on your face by lifting tightening the loose skin of your face below the eyes. A facelift is a highly individualised procedure. The benefits of a facelift are that it redefines the sunken appearance of your face, in turn also helping to boost confidence.
