Mr Vinod Menon is a highly experienced Consultant General, Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) and Laparoscopic Surgeon whose main clinical practice is based at Meriden in Coventry and Droitwich Spa Hospital in Worcestershire. He also held a long-standing NHS consultant post at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.

He completed his higher surgical training on the All Wales Higher Surgical Training (HST) rotation, achieving his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2002. He was subsequently appointed as Consultant General, Upper GI and Laparoscopic Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire in September 2002.

Mr Menon has extensive leadership experience within the NHS. He served as Clinical Director across multiple surgical specialties, including General Surgery, Vascular, Urology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and Gastroenterology for 11 years (2008–2019). He has also held key regional and national roles, including Lead Clinician for Bariatric Surgical Services and Clinical Lead for Upper GI Surgery. In addition, he chaired the Upper GI Network Site-Specific Group (NSSG) for the Arden Cancer Network from 2004 to 2017.

He is actively involved in national surgical education and professional leadership. Mr Menon is Honorary Secretary of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgical Society (BOMSS) and Director of the West Midlands Surgical Training Centre (WMSTC), one of the UK’s most advanced cadaveric surgical training facilities. He is also Section Editor for Bariatric Surgery in the Oxford Textbook of General Surgery.

His clinical expertise includes the full range of upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery. He performs laparoscopic weight loss procedures such as gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, and gastric bypass surgery, as well as endoscopic intragastric balloon insertion. He also treats gallbladder disease, acid reflux (anti-reflux surgery), and performs laparoscopic surgery for hiatal and inguinal hernias.

In addition, Mr Menon undertakes diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and has specialist expertise in the surgical management of oesophageal and gastric cancers. He is particularly focused on the rising prevalence of obesity and provides evidence-based surgical solutions to reduce weight-related health risks and improve long-term outcomes for patients.

Through his private practice at Meriden Hospital and Droitwich Spa Hospital, Mr Menon delivers specialist, patient-centred care using advanced minimally invasive and laparoscopic techniques designed to improve recovery, safety, and overall quality of life.
