He has expertise in minimally invasive joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee, arthroscopic knee surgery and in soft tissues conditions around the hip and knee.
Mr Vedi Is a key opinion leader in the use of biologics to treat various orthopaedic conditions. He was the first surgeon in the UK to use NSTRIDE autologous blood protein injections for the treatment of osteoarthritis in the knee and the first in the world to use the same treatment for osteoarthritis in the hip and ankle. He also has extensive expertise in the use of platelet enriched plasma for various orthopaedic soft tissue conditions. He speaks at meetings both nationally and internationally on this subject as well as teaching other surgeons these techniques.
He was one of the pioneering UK lead surgeons in the Rapid Recovery ProgrammeTM for joint replacement surgery; a patient focused approach to the management of hip and knee replacement patients aimed at improving their experiences and allowing a faster rehabilitation and shorter hospital stay. This programme was adopted by the NHS as ‘enhanced recovery’.
Mr Vedi is a regular speaker on hip and knee surgery at various international meetings and teaches regularly on a number of international courses in hip and knee surgery. To continue his research interests, he was the UK principal investigator for a new technology in knee replacement and has been a surgical evaluator of new prostheses in hip and knee surgery.
Mr Vedi was invited to become a Department of Health Advisor supporting the QIPP Orthopaedic Procurement Best Practice Programme to support the government in its efforts in reducing procurement costs to the NHS specifically focusing on joint replacement surgery.
Mr Vedi graduated from University College London in 1992. His higher surgical training was on the Southwest Thames Orthopaedic rotation and completed his training in 2004. During his training, he was appointed as the first ever Football Association research fellow and his work led to a number of publications on the kinematics of the knee joint. To complete his training Mr Vedi undertook a prestigious fellowship in Sydney, Australia. He gained extensive experience in hip and knee arthroplasty and revision hip and knee replacement in a tertiary referral practice both in the young and the elderly as well as with a number of hip and knee pathologies. At the end of his orthopaedic specialist training Mr Vedi was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon for Hillingdon hospitals NHS trust and remained in this position for 17 years before leaving to remain practising in the private sector. During his time in the NHS Mr Vedi was awarded numerous clinical excellence awards for his practice.
