About Mr Vel Sakthivel

Personal Profile

With over 20 years’ experience gained internationally in the field of trauma and orthopaedics, Mr Sakthivel specialises in treating adult knee pain and knee problems with a particular interest in sports knee injuries, such as dislocated knee caps, meniscus tears (torn cartilage) and chondromalacia (runner’s knee).

Mr Sakthivel offers specialised surgical techniques for the treatment of repeated knee cap dislocations and cruciate ligament reconstructions, including revision reconstructions. He also performs both total and partial knee replacement surgery, including isolated knee cap replacements where indicated.

He gained his medical degree from the University of Madras in 1993. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 1997, and of the Intercollegiate Speciality Board FRCS(Orth) in 2006. In addition, he holds a Diploma in Orthopaedic Engineering from the University Of Cardiff.
