About Ms Uzma Ghaffar

Personal Profile

Ms Uzma Ghaffar has been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) since 2019. She completed her post graduate training from West Yorkshire Deanery in 2018 and received specialist training in benign gynaecology  surgery both open and laparoscopic surgeries. Ms Ghaffar holds a diploma in sexual and reproductive health (2016) and Gynaecology Endoscopy (Germany, 2017).

Ms Ghaffar is passionate about the teaching and training of junior doctors and is a Training Programme Director for laparoscopy simulation in Northwest Deanery. She is also a Royal College Tutor at WWL and worked as Gynaecology Governance lead for nearly six years. 

Clinical Interests

Ms Ghaffar's main areas of interest are:

- management of menstrual disturbances
- pelvic pain including endometriosis
- menopause
- polycystic ovarian syndrome
- fibroids
- cervical polyps
- benign gynaecology
- hysteroscopy and laparoscopic gynaecological surgery

Ms Ghaffar offers minimal access surgery for the diagnosis of pelvic pain, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and hysterectomy.

She also runs a chronic pain service at Leigh Infirmary.
