About Tristan McMullan

Personal Profile

Mr McMullan spent 11 years training as an ophthalmologist with extensive sub-specialisation in oculoplastics (facial and eyelid plastic surgery) - in both the UK and the USA. In the UK, Mr McMullan honed his skills in non-cosmetic surgery, whilst in the States he refined his expertise in cosmetic procedures at the Center for Facial Appearances, home to two of the leading ophthalmic plastic surgeons in America.

Tristan enjoys general ophthalmology and is happy to provide a general ophthalmic service. In particular, he specialises in small incision cataract surgery using topical (eye-drop) anaesthesia. As well as providing a gold-standard general ophthalmic practice, he is well placed to provide a subspecialist interest in eyelid and lacrimal surgery – both ‘functional’ and cosmetic.

His training both sides of the Atlantic has enabled Tristan to choose the best practice and techniques from both. He applies the principles of cosmetic surgery to functional surgery and vice versa to optimise results for both patient and surgeon. A Cambridge graduate with a PhD in molecular genetics Mr McMullan has retained an interest in research, both clinical and scientific. He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and presented at national and international conferences.

Mr McMullan is a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society. He is a previous European Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery junior award winner. He provides private consultancy at Three Shires Hospital and is a Consultant at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust.
