About Professor Tony Chow

Personal Profile

Prof Chow graduated from The Royal Free Hospital London. He spent several years acquiring multi-specialty general medical experience. His post graduate specialist training was in the North Thames rotation. Accredited in general medicine and coronary intervention previously. Subspecialisation in electrophysiology and cardiac devices. He has over 23 years of clinical experience and is a senior consultant, initially at UCLH 2002-14, and later at The Barts Heart Centre in London, the largest UK tertiary cardiac centre for over 10 years.  He is a specialist in complex pacing, devices, complex arrhythmia management and all broader aspects of cardiology. He continues to practice acute arrhythmia on call rota in a busy tertiary centre. Tony enjoys tennis, badminton, walking, travelling, and theatre when time permits.

Clinical Interests

Particular interest in cardiac arrhythmias, with a focus on atrial fibrillation treatment and catheter ablation. VT/VE mapping. Conduction system /CRT pacing, leadless pacing and lead extraction. Left atrial appendage occluder devices for stroke prevention. He is an Honorary Consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He has over 170 peer reviewed clinical research papers and PI in a number of clinical studies including international multicentre trials. PhD supervisor for over 20 years, examiner for university of London and Associate Professor at UCL London. 

Research Interests

  • Complex and conventional electrophysiology, complex 3D mapping of human cardiac arrhythmias

  • Complex cardiac devices for heart failure, prevention of sudden death and lead extraction

  • Research supervisor of MD and PhD fellows
