Terry Lowe is a Consultant Maxillofacial Head and Neck Surgeon based in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Honorary Senior Lecturer of the University of Aberdeen (2003 – present).
Terry completed both Dental and Medical degrees in Sheffield, South Yorkshire followed by 2 years of General surgery training in Derbyshire, leading to FRCS in General Surgery, 1998.
He completed Higher Surgical Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the West of Scotland Programme, developing a specialist interest in Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstructive surgery. Completed FRCS OMFS 2002.
Interests and Roles - In 2006 Introduced virtual 3D surgical planning service in Aberdeen as a standard of care for head and neck reconstructive surgery. Also introduced Ultrasound imaging in Head and Neck service to establish one stop image-guided diagnosis of head and neck tumours and non-invasive monitoring of treated cases. Current interests include the development of augmented reality and blended imaging in surgical planning and the early detection of oral cancer, including the management of oral premalignancy.
Terry has a longstanding involvement in Medical Education and training and is assigned educational and clinical supervisor for surgeons in training and a member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal college of Surgeons in Edinburgh. He is an undergraduate and postgraduate surgical examiner including Faculty role with RCPS Glasgow since 2016 as National and International examiner in MRCS (General surgery). He is also a National Specialty Examiner in FRCS for Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.
Terry also obtained a Diploma in Clinical Education in 2014. and is a Member of the OMFS Surgical Training Committee and NHS Education for Scotland. He is a National Panelist for specialist recruitment in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
