Syed Awais Bokhari is a Consultant at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust specialising in hip and knee replacement surgery (routine, complex and revision) for worn joints (arthritis) or failing prosthesis. He also offers key hole (arthroscopic) surgery for sports related injuries as well as fracture fixation for injuries sustained through trauma.

Training and Appointment

Mr Bokhari obtained his medical degree in 2007 from the prestigious King's College Medical University in London and since completed his specialist training in Yorkshire. Upon completing his training, Mr Bokhari was invited to undertake his fellowship at the birth centre of hip surgery and the World renowned - Wrightington Hospital, where he refined his surgical skills to undertake complex primary and revision joint surgery. The attention Mr Bokhari pays to his patient’s needs and then tailoring the management to obtain the best results (operatively and non-operatively) has led Mr Bokhari to be identified as a ‘future leader in surgery’ with one of the largest medical companies in the World. Mr Bokhari practices the ‘enhanced recovery programme’ to help patients recover from their surgery quicker and uses computer assistance to plan his joint replacement operations. Alongside his NHS work, Mr Bokhari is a registered Motorsport Doctor and has provided medical cover for national and international motor racing events.

Academic and Training Interests

Mr Bokhari has published many articles which have led to local and national changes. He is also a keen educationist, writing medical chapters and books as well as organising courses to help senior trainees pass their consultant exams. As a result, Mr Bokhari has been recognised as a key trainer for future consultants.
