Personal Profile

Dr Sharma graduated in 2002 obtaining MBBS with distinction. He subsequently gained MRCP and trained on the South Thames Cardiology Rotation at St. Thomas' and Guys Hospital, Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and King's college Hospital.

He was appointed Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals Surrey, UK in 2016. He performs complex PCI procedures at St Thomas’ and King's College hospital and holds an honorary NHS contract there. He has recently taken the role of clinical lead for general and interventional cardiology services at the Ashford and St Peters Hospitals NHS foundation trust.

Dr Sharma was awarded a prestigious clinical MD Research fellowship to study the endogenous thrombolysis, platelet functions and cardiovascular risks in high risk population on dialysis. During this time, he published widely in peer reviewed journals including European Heart Journal. He has multiple publications including research articles, review articles and book chapters. He has presented his research at internationally acclaimed cardiology conferences in the USA and Europe.

Dr Sharma continues to undertake clinical research and is Principal investigator in several multi-national randomised control trials. He also undertakes educational and clinical supervision for junior doctors, trainee cardiologists and medical students.

Clinical Interests

Dr Sharma has an interest in all aspects of General (management of chest pain, palpitations, AF, breathlessness, dizziness, blood pressure and prevention of coronary artery disease) and Interventional cardiology including diagnostic coronary angiography, coronary physiology assessment with FFR/iFR (Pressure wire), coronary angioplasty and stent insertion including Complex PCI, rotational atherectomy, intracoronary imaging with IVUS or OCT and insertion of cardiac pacemakers.

He is also actively interested in managing post COVID cardiac issues.
