About Mr Sohail Akhtar

Personal Profile

PLEASE NOTE THAT MR AKHTAR NO LONGER OFFERS COSMETIC CONSULTATIONS AT HIGHFIELD HOSPITAL IN ROCHDALE

Mr Akhtar is a General Medical Council Certified Plastic Surgeon. He qualified as a doctor in 1996 and has specialised in Plastic Surgery for over twenty years. He aims to deliver a high-quality service with an emphasis not only on great results but also a great patient journey. In his view 'the experience is just as important as the result'.

During his medical school training at Liverpool University, Mr Akhtar was inspired to follow a career in surgery after gaining an elective placement in London with Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub the pioneering cardiac transplant surgeon. After graduation from medical school, he embarked on surgical training and was awarded membership of the Royal College of Surgeons. Following this he started specialisation in Plastic Surgery and on completion was awarded the title of a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery.

Mr Akhtar started his NHS Consultant career as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Durham where he had the opportunity to develop his interest in cosmetic surgery. He subsequently moved his post to become a Consultant at the prestigious centre of excellence at Wrightington Hospital in Lancashire. At Wrightington Hospital he performs a broad range of plastic surgery procedures such as soft tissue reconstruction and scar treatment as well as general hand surgery procedures.

Outside of the NHS, Mr Akhtar operates at The Highfield Hospital in Rochdale, North Manchester which serves Rochdale, Oldham, Bury, Bolton and the North Manchester area and Huddersfield Private Hospital in West Yorkshire serving Huddersfield, Halifax, Bradford and Leeds.

Beyond UK medicine, Mr Akhtar is involved with charitable medical aid work delivering care to those with little or no resources in developing countries. This includes personally going on charitable missions to Sierra Leone as part of a team sent by Wrightington Hospital to provide surgical treatments in the world's 3rd poorest nation. He also provided emergency surgical relief aid by travelling to Pakistan during the 2005 earthquake disaster, where over 80,000 people lost their lives. Up to 2020, he continued to do regular charity work abroad and hope to continue this in 2022 onwards.

Other than medicine, he also has a passion for the arts in music and photography. He believes this creative and artistic side complements his work as a Plastic and Cosmetic surgeon.
