Personal Profile

Mr Richards trained at The Royal London Hospital School, qualifying as a doctor in 1992. Basic surgical training was completed in various London teaching hospitals and he achieved the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996.

His Orthopaedic Registrar training was on the North-West Thames programme based at The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He then completed two fellowship training posts. The first was at The Mater Hospital, Sydney Australia. 

On returning to the UK, Simon completed a fellowship in his area of specialist interest of Upper Limb Surgery, at the renowned Pulvertaft Unit at The Derby Royal Infirmary, under the supervision of Professor Frank Burke. He commenced his Consultant Orthopaedic post at Bournemouth and Poole in September 2004.

Simon's Orthopaedic work is focused on his areas of specialist clinical interest, the upper limb including all aspects of orthopaedic surgery of the hand/wrist, elbow and shoulder. Conditions treated include all types of arthritis, nerve compressions (such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), lumps and bumps, Dupuytren’s disease, and trauma (fractures and soft tissue injuries). Surgical techniques include joint replacements and arthroscopic (key-hole) surgery.
