About Simon Kennon

Personal Profile

Dr Simon Kennon is a general and interventional consultant cardiologist, appointed in 2005. His private practice is based at the Kings Oak Hospital, Enfield. In the NHS he is based at the Barts Heart Centre, St Bartholomew’s Hospital. He also has outpatient clinics at the Royal Free and Barnet Hospitals. He undertakes coronary artery and heart valve procedures at the Wellington Hospital and the Barts Heart Centre.

Dr Kennon is experienced in the management of all general cardiology conditions including palpitations, breathlessness, chest pain, atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

His particular areas of expertise are the assessment and treatment of chest pain and heart valve disease; in particular the treatment of coronary artery disease, aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation.

He is an experienced Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) operator having set up and led the TAVI programme at the London Chest Hospital. The London Chest Hospital merged with the Heart Hospital in 2015 to form the Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital which has the largest TAVI programme in the UK.

Dr Kennon is also an experienced coronary interventionist performing coronary procedures in both elective and emergency settings.

Weight loss: Dr Kennon is aware of how incredibly difficult it can be to lose weight, but also how valuable it can be in patients with heart conditions. He is happy to discuss individualised weight loss strategies.

Anxiety: Dr Kennon knows that heart conditions and symptoms can cause a lot of anxiety. This will always be addressed in consultations.

He qualified from Manchester Medical School in 1992. He completed general medical training in and around London (Royal Free Hospital, Southend General Hospital, Newham General Hospital and the London Chest Hospital) before training in general & interventional cardiology at St Bartholomew’s and the London Chest Hospitals. His training continued with a fellowship in interventional cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.

Dr Kennon was appointed editor-in-chief of ‘Interventional Cardiology Review’, a thrice yearly journal published by Radcliffe Cardiology (see www.radcliffecardiology.com), in January 2014. The journal publishes review articles written by experienced and eminent cardiologists generally reviewing available research data on a particular issue as well as providing practical clinical and procedural advice.

His research interests include TAVI, aortic valve disease and acute coronary syndromes, about which he has published many scientific papers.

He lectures at national and international meetings and has performed coronary angioplasty live for training purposes at international meetings both in Europe and America (EuroPCR, TCT).

In his spare time he enjoys running, squash, skiing, reading and provides a remarkably efficient taxi service for his children.
