Personal Profile

Mr Shamsi El-Hasani for the past 32 years has specialised in upper gastrointestinal, gallbladder, hernia and weight loss surgical procedures.  He had long intense well-structured training, this was augmented by the large volume of the operative workload he has performed over the years which gave him extensive and wise knowledge, experience and advanced surgical handcraft.

Mr El-Hasani has his NHS practice at the Princess Royal University Hospital, which is a part of King’s College Hospital, in Orpington and he is the Lead Clinician for the department.

Mr El-Hasani delivers his private practice for the whole of Kent with face-to-face consultations at Orpington, Bromley and Beckenham.  He has been the Lead for Bariatric Services at the Bariatric Centre of Excellence at Chelsfield Park Hospital. This centre was accredited by the International Federation of Surgery for Obesity (IFSO) 9 years ago.

Mr El-Hasani has performed more than 2000 gastric bypasses, 1000 gastric sleeves, 1500 gastric bands and regularly performs revisional procedure.

Mr El-Hasani had accumulated large series of bariatric revisional surgery mainly gastric band to bypass, sleeve gastrectomy to bypass,  band to sleeve and trimming  the pouch of previous gastric bypass.

Mr El-Hasani has particular interest and has contributed to development of the new version of the gastric bypass, which is called mini/one anastomosis/single anastomosis gastric bypass.  He has special interest and experience in the surgical management of diabetes.

Obesity is a chronic disease and one operation in a lifetime may not be sufficient, and hence, revision surgery is the new chapter in bariatric surgery to maintain patient’s happiness.

Also over the years, Mr El-Hasani has performed more than 5000 laparoscopic cholecystectomies, 5000 laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs, and 500 laparoscopic anti-reflux surgeries and repair of hiatus hernia for gastroesophageal reflux.
