Mr Sean Hughes specialises in hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder upper limb conditions as well as musculoskeletal trauma to those areas, through sports injuries and accidents.
After qualifying from King's College Hospital Medical School, London in 1995, Mr Hughes was trained in London, Sussex and Surrey, culminating in Trauma and Upper Limb fellowships at the University of Waikato, a major trauma centre in New Zealand. His 20-month fellowship was under Mr Thin Hong, renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon now based in Hamilton. Upon his return to the UK, Mr Hughes undertook an additional Upper Limb Fellows at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, before being appointed as a Consultant in 2012.
Mr Hughes has volunteered and served with the Royal Navy (Armed Forces) as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, treating multi-national injured service personnel and civilians, (along with the odd Military Working Dog!) on the frontline.
Mr Hughes was a founding faculty member of the Damage Control Orthopaedic Trauma surgery course at the Royal College of Surgeons, London.
With a regular private practice at Mount Alvernia Hospital, Mr Hughes sees patients with a wide range of upper limb problems. He specialises in shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist fractures, traumatic injuries and surgical procedures for adult patients of all ages.
