Personal Profile

Dr Savio D’Souza is a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Interventional Cardiology. He sees a wide range of patients with general heart issues including chest discomforts, angina, dizziness/lightheadedness, palpitations, blackouts, breathlessness and heart attacks and structural heart disease and heart rhythm issues.

His NHS base is within Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and practices at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford and Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup. He holds Honorary Consultant Cardiologist positions at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital, London and William Harvey Hospital Ashford, Kent.

Dr D’Souza contributes to the 24 hour Kent-wide Primary Angioplasty service based at William Harvey Hospital – an emergency life-saving service in the treatment of acute heart attacks. He has a sub-speciality interest is non-invasive, CT-coronary angiography imaging commonly used in assessment of cardiac and non-cardiac chest pains. Dr D’Souza has held Interventional Cardiology Fellowships at Manchester Royal Infirmary and London’s Royal Brompton Hospitals and has attained extensive experience with nationally and internationally accredited operators.

He graduated in Medicine from the Goa Medical College/ University of Bombay in India and then progressed to his post-graduate training in the UK in Yorkshire and the Southeast under the auspices of the Yorkshire and Wessex Deaneries. Academically, Dr D’Souza is conferred with a Doctorate in Medicine from The Hatter Cardiovascular Institute, University College London - the world’s leading centre for clinical and basic cardiovascular research.

The facility has established discoveries in protecting the heart from damage during a heart attack. Dr D’Souza has pioneered work, endorsing the protective role of B-type natriuretic peptide in ischaemic pre-conditioning of the heart. He has presented internationally and has a large number of publications to his credit and in high impact factor journals. Additionally, he has also been conferred with Fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians in the UK as well as Royal College of Physicians in Ireland.

He continues to pursue research interests at Darent Valley Hospital and collaborates with Tertiary and Primary care centres in the region. He is a Personal Investigator in several ongoing projects including international randomised controlled trials and registries, supported by a research team.

He maintains a keen interest in education and is a supervisor to several trainees, supporting them in their careers. He has been a lead in Simulation training and has set up an expanding service for the Trust.
