Personal Profile

Mr Bahia is a Vascular and Endovascular surgeon. Originally from Kent, he qualified from University College London and went on to train at units in London and the South East and is now based in Blackheath. He was awarded a PhD (St George's, London) exploring cardiovascular risk in patients with aortic aneurysms and arterial disease.

He is the Aortic and Research Lead for East Kent Hospitals, Clinical Director for the Kent NAASP Aortic screening programme and is the lead for the Complex Aortic programme in Kent.

He has published over 25 peer-reviewed papers in the field and presented his research both nationally and internationally.

Mr Bahia also consults as an independent expert legal witness in cases such as breach of duty and negligence.

Clinical Interests

Mr Bahia offers the full range of treatments for aortic, carotid and lower limb disease, but has a particular interest in the minimally invasive treatment of venous disease. He also consults on conditions such as thoracic outlet syndrome and deep venous disease.

His routine practice involves open and endovascular (keyhole) repair of aortic aneurysms (including EVAR and FEVAR), carotid artery disease treatment which untreated can cause strokes, open and endovascular lower limb procedures to improve blood supply to the legs and open and endovascular (keyhole) procedures for venous disease (varicose/unsightly veins).

The procedures he offers for lower limb venous disease include radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as well as ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy for smaller veins. Open procedures include avulsing (removing) veins that are not suitable for keyhole treatments.
